Color photos. 16 pages. 3 - 6 People & Animals: United for Health calendar. Massachusetts Society for Medical Research. The award-winning calendar addresses key concepts in animal and human health and welfare in an interactive and visually-engaging calendar format. Designed as hand-illustrated posters, each month covers a different health or science topic, healthy living tips, a career corner and more. Topics include AIDS, dental health, pathogens, the heart, and biodiversity. The calendar is formatted for perpetual use. Teachers ordering the calendar will receive 7 poster-sized calendar sheets and date inserts. Foundation for Biomedical Research. Basic information on laboratory animal care and facts about research.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. A colorfully illustrated booklet on environmental health concerns. Teachers receiving this material from WABRE will be asked to return a comment card to the NIEHS. 7 - 12 Consumer Product Safety booklet. Join Hands. An informative booklet on the methods and rules governing product safety testing in the U.S., a controversial issue for many young people. Includes information on government agencies regulating products. B&W photos. Join Hands. Color brochure on alternatives to the use of animals in research and testing.
7 - 10 What's the Point of Biomedical Research? Student booklet.The North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research. A colorful and informative magazine designed to help junior and high school students understand the purpose and importance of biomedical research. Includes a cartoon story following one student's health care experience and up to date information on the scientific process, types of research, and infectious disease. 8
- 12 Animal Research and AIDS booklet.Foundation for Biomedical Research. A 20-page booklet that discusses the contributions of animal studies to the search for AIDS treatments, cures and vaccines. 8 - 12 People and Animals: United for Health curriculum. The long-term goals of the People and Animals curriculum are to stimulate, nurture and perpetuate interest, understanding and participation in biomedical sciences among students and educators, as well as to create awareness of the career opportunities in health care and health research. The curriculum includes a comprehensive Reference Manual, a set of 159 color and black and white slides, a Discussion Guide, and a timeline poster of biomedical research advances. WABRE has a very limited supply of the curriculum available this year for life science
teachers in Wisconsin. The curriculum is also the focus of WABRE teacher workshops. |
